Green Valley Ranch Resort, Las Vegas

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Look at the advertisement photos for the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas and you can not only imagine yourself there but can imagine the place filled with classic celebrities. I see the likes of Elvis or one of his characters, like Rick conversing or conferring in the fabulous indoor pool room with the welcoming overstuffed chairs and matching footrests or better, do one of his classic group songs where he sings and plays the git while the go-go girls, clad only in fringed two-piece suits shimmy around him and the shimmering blue pool.  One can also see Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. kicked back and tipping back clinking cocktails, or Wayne Newton and his entourage taking over this area of the Green Valley Ranch Resort during a break from sets in the lounge.

You can also see the likes of any celebrity at the outdoor pool of Green Valley Ranch Resort which is lined with symmetrically, artistically, and even ergonomically apt lounge chairs: you can imagine Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez, or Jerry Lewis, or Jackie Gleason, relaxing in between sets or gigs, enjoying the cabana service, the fresh air and sun, the deep Mediterranean teal blue pool.

I get these nostalgic impressions from the decor especially that which is a delightful throwback to or simulation of the fifties and sixties, but the decor also changes, progresses, as do the amenities at Green Valley Ranch Resort. For example, the spa facilities are shown by photos with sleek women stretched out in meditative repose, smooth stones lining their backbones or special skin treatment solutions (that look like egg yolk batter or paint) being applied as they recline in quiet serenity. Therefore, I get the sense that if they were to visit Las Vegas and were to choose Green Valley Ranch Resort, big stars like Angelina Jolie or Michelle Pfieffer or Ving Rames or Brad Pitt would be in their vacationing element in spas like these.

Of course, big time gamblers like Ben Affleck would look and feel just as right in the Green Valley Ranch Resort casino (if he/they didn’t feel up to going a few hundred feet away to the strip and the other gambling houses); and the entertainment, which turns out to be advertised with a nod toward Hollywood, is both indoor and outdoor delight at the Green Valley Ranch Resort. So come to think of it, I can see myself lounging at the water, getting pampered in the spa, or gambling like all get out. Check out the photos and slide show of the Green Valley Ranch Resort and I would BET you can imagine yourself there, as well.

Las Vegas Vacation Packages As Advertised

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Do you like gambling? There are at least ten riverboat casinos all within an hour of where I live, so it’s easy for me to get in on some gambling action whenever I want to play cards, slots, or dice. But if you’ve ever been on a riverboat, then you know it’s not exactly an ideal gaming situation. For example, there are very few blackjack tables and you often have to wait 30 minutes or more before a seat becomes available. And of course that’s the seat that was getting all the bad cards, which caused the last player to lose all his money and walk away in the first place! As much as I enjoy an entertaining evening of gambling, the action around here could never compare to Vegas. That’s why I regularly monitor all of the different Las Vegas vacation packages that I see advertised.

By purchasing a Las Vegas vacation package, I end up paying one low price for airfare, accommodation, and a rental car. It’s much easier from a convenience and budgeting standpoint to have all of those things taken care of up front than to worry about making and confirming several different reservations, as well as working out the separate payments for each part of my trip. Plus, Las Vegas vacation packages can be personalized to a certain extent. So if I want to catch a few shows while I’m in town, I can purchase tickets as part of my plan. Similarly, if I want to add Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam sightseeing tours to my itinerary, I can easily do that too. There are Las Vegas vacation packages that cover just about anything I would want to do in the area.

There are a few different hotels and casinos that I really enjoy staying at, so I’m glad that I can find Las Vegas vacation packages that feature rooms at the MGM Grand, the Bellagio, New York New York, Hard Rock, and some of the other big-name hotels. Whether I want to stay downtown or on the Strip, I always know there’s a Las Vegas vacation package that’s perfect for me.

I usually book my Las Vegas vacation packages online. There are so many websites offering excellent deals that it wouldn’t make sense to do it any other way. The process is quick and easy, and I’ve never had a problem with tickets or reservations.

If it’s about time for you to get away for some exciting gambling action, superb shows, and exhilarating nightlife, I highly recommend checking out some Las Vegas vacation packages. I think you’ll be surprised at how affordable a trip to Sin City really is! It doesn’t need to break your wallet for a trip to Las Vegas

Getting the Right Vegas Package Deals

Monday, July 10th, 2006

In the HBO movie, Slasher, high-pressure auto salesmen fly in to a dealership from out of state, set up a special $88-car deal, and lure customers in to buy used cars as there is one $88-deal a day. The people rush to the car they want (and think is the ONE), then they wait until the head Slasher comes around and knocks off hundreds to thousands of dollars or, if they are the lucky ones that day, knocks the price down to $88. In very telling commentary, one of the team members flown in, an inside the doors salesman, says to the camera that there could be a pile of manure on the side of the road for a million dollars. Every day the people will pass that manure and that sign for a million, the guy says. Then, one day the price is slashed to a dollar, and people will rush to buy the manure. This attitude (on the part of the salesman) is cold and calculating and not quite accurate or a nasty analogy that speaks more to his duplicity than to people’s spending tendencies. We wait for lower costs because we are poor, careful with money, and/or leery of getting screwed for anything more than a dollar. (And even THAT hurts) So we reticent, for example, when we read about or hear about such things as Vegas package deals, which really do seem too good to be true.

We are rightfully leery about jumping impulsively or spending casually on one of those Vegas package deals, apprehensive about the legitimacy, the true value, or the reality of such offers. Our money is budgeted carefully, and while we haven’t had a vacation for a decade, if even a couple hundred dollars goes to one of the Vegas package deals are fraudulent, we will suffer the sting for a long time after.

While I wish I could recall the company name, to pass on the great news to you, I can’t, but I will report that one of the Vegas package deals was affordable enough and my new boyfriend (at the time) and I researched enough, made enough calls of inquiry, and asked enough questions to protect ourselves, that we gave the offer a try. We were utterly surprised and delighted: we had two nights in an off-the-strip hotel, had coupons to a show, for an Italian dinner (in the hotel), and for a breakfast. We had a swimming pool all to ourselves (as it was not off-season but post 9-11 and people were not flying much or vacationing, I suppose). We had a staff that were just as accommodating and friendly as if we were high rollers. And we had a time-share manager (who had to interview us and try to convince us to attend the seminar) who was forgiving when we revealed our credit was too weak to be buying any property etc..

My point is that of the many fraudulent Vegas package deals and other scams to sell us one thing up front and actually give us something else, this one was not in any way a ruse, a trick, or a theft of our hard-earned dollars. I guess that smarmy salesman on Slasher should have used a more apt analogy for the deals they were doing: people will see a gilded pile of manure and will ignore it until the day it is offered for a dollar. Then when they get home and find the item is sh&t, they can be pissed at the scumbags who sold it to them but can also blame themselves for not looking under the golden hood of allure and chalk it up as one inexpensive lesson.

Las Vegas Entertainment is More then Gambling

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? It is the one city on the planet where its considered normal to stay up all night and sleep during the day, if at all. Yes, its true, the city that never sleeps actually never sleeps. I almost wonder why anyone bothers getting a hotel room when they come in to Las Vegas for a weekend. Las Vegas entertainment can make you forget that you ever wanted to sleep in the first place.

One of my favorite forms of Las Vegas entertainment is of course gambling. I have the right combination of obsessive compulsiveness and stupidity to make for a serious gambling addict if I’m not careful. While hitting up the poker rooms or black jack tables is a great form of Las Vegas entertainment, watch yourself! They give out those drinks for a reason, and its easy to blow through a lot of money really fast. Gambling can quickly go from Las Vegas entertainment to Las Vegas nightmare in just a few moments. Generally, I go into any games assuming the money I’m betting with is already lost, and just try to have fun.

Another idea of Las Vegas entertainment is of course the shows. There are some great venues in the area, and there’s almost always a good concert to catch on any given weekend. Las Vegas has always been a major center for entertainment, as it tends to bring in large crowds who will then wander around gambling when the show is over. Pretty much every form of Las Vegas entertainment is really just a ploy to get you to come gamble if you think about it, but I find it’s better not to think about it.

If you’re looking for some wilder ideas on Las Vegas entertainment, I recommend picking up a copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and reading it. As Hunter S. Thompson’s one classic novel, it serves as an inspirational guide to Las Vegas entertainment and also happens to be a fine piece of literature. Of course, the kinds of Las Vegas entertainment you might be tempted to try after reading his book will probably get you arrested and thrown in jail for several years, but maybe that’s just part of the Las Vegas experience?

Las Vegas entertainment of a more sane and legal variety takes many different forms, and its part of the fun to stumble through the city discovering them all. If you are on your way there, be prepared to party all night and all day. There is no end to the fun and excitement in Las Vegas
