Things to Take Note When Booking Holiday Flights

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

When it comes to holiday travel, one of your biggest obstacles may be finding holiday flights that do not cost you and arm and a leg. Holiday flights are often expensive simply because they can be. Airlines know that this time of year is popular with travelers, and that they will pay higher prices so they can get home for the holidays.

If you know you are going to fly across the country to get home for a holiday, look into holiday flights as early as you can. It is recommended that you book in spring or summer if at all possible. If you don’t book your holiday flights early, you may find that there are none available.

You can save money on holiday flights by agreeing to split your flight into stopovers or layovers. When you agree to this, you should know that it will take you longer to get home and back, but you will have a better chance of securing holiday flights at a cheaper price. Look online, talk to a travel agent, and call the airlines directly. Tell them your destination, date of arrival and departure, and how many seats you need. Ask them to find the best deal they can for your holiday flights.

Don’t forget to search through every online travel site for the best deal. Take some time to find the best deal by not buying the first fare you see. Holiday flights are hard to get at a good price, but it is possible. Always remember to read the fine print. Many discount sites offer great deals, but if something happens and you can’t go, these particular holiday flights will be non refundable.

You can also save on holiday flights by keeping your flight dates open. If you are willing to take off a day early or later than you planned, it may be possible to find cheaper holiday flights. Flexibility is always the key to saving money when it comes to airfare.

Remember that holiday flights are often over booked, so confirm your flight with the airline twenty-four hours in advance, and arrive early for your flight, and check-in immediately. If someone needs to be bumped from an overbooked flight, they will look to see who has yet to arrive and check-in. You don’t want this to be you.

The airport will be busy and stressful around holiday flights, so bring your patience with you when you arrive. Give yourself enough time to get through the airport, get through security, and arrive at your gate as early as possible. If you have children, you may be asked to board the plane first.

Search around, remain flexible, and you will take the financial sting and stress out of holiday flights. The important thing is that you get home, even if it takes you a little longer and you have to take a detour.

Finding the Best Discounted Travel Deal

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I love to travel, learning about different land, different people and culture. How about you? I will guess that your answer is yes. So many individuals these days are wanting to travel all over the globe. Most of them probably haven’t even seen their own country yet. It’s funny how that works. Regardless, you definitely want to make sure you travel in the most economical fashion. No, I’m not talking about by bicycle. No one expects you to pedal that two-wheeler all the way to London, England.

I’m referring to discounted travel. Have you heard of it? Of course you have. In this magnificent age of knowledge and technology, I would think it’s rather difficult to stay in the dark. After all, we punch away on our laptops everyday. With that wonderful high-speed connection to net-land, we can go and learn anything we choose.

Want to know what I love about discounted travel? That would be the discounts. I know what you’re thinking; that was a no-brainer. However, it still seems that so many people have trouble finding the best deals around. Just the other day I listened to my wife’s co-worker gripe about his expensive trip to Disney World. What is the deal here? Did the guy even do his research on discounted travel first? My guess is no. Now I realize that he has a wife and two children, and that a week long trip to the magical kingdom can stick you with one gargantuan, and not so magical bill.

However, if you just hop on the World-Wide-Web, you can get a number of options going with discounted travel sites. That is the key here. You see, with cyberspace comes an entire slew of contemporary options. There are literally hundreds or even thousands of websites out there vying for your attention. Yeah, that’s right. They all want your business. You know what this means. They better have the absolute best discounted travel options and deals available; because you’re going to go with the lowest rates. Heck, that’s what we all do. All you have to do is pop open your Google.com search engine and start browsing. Punch in the keywords “discounted travel,” or you can even punch in your preferred destination. Soon you will be sorting through deals and specials galore. That choice discounted travel plan is out there if you do your research first. Make that summer vacation, a relaxing one by not breaking the bank.

Caribbean Cruise – Vacation Out On Sea

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

A Caribbean cruise may very well be the adventure vacation of a lifetime. A cruise in the Caribbean can be the all inclusive getaway you have dreamed about.

There are many activities to do while on a Caribbean cruise. A cruise ship is much like a floating city. With entertainment, sports, shopping, dining, casinos all onboard. Many Caribbean cruises offer entertainment from Broadway style shows to the latest comedy acts to many styles of music. Some cruises are even themed for certain crowds. There are family cruises, singles cruises, and even religious cruises.

If you aren’t taking in a show, you can enjoy fine dining, bars and lounges while on this floating city.  After you have indulged, you can exercise in gyms and go swimming in a pool. Some Caribbean cruise lines offer rock climbing walls, golf and other specialty sports.

On board the ship, you may find shops, casinos, spas and more. The ways to pamper yourself may seem endless while you are on a Caribbean cruise. Most popular cruise lines offer programs for the children as well so that the whole family can enjoy the vacation.

A cruise is not just a floating adventure. The cruise ship will stop at various ports of call. While on shore, you will have the opportunity to explore some very exotic destinations. Your Caribbean cruise may stop in Jamaica, Mexico, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Belize, Aruba and more. Perhaps you will try scuba diving, or para-sailing. Maybe you will travel to the markets and shop for local crafts and try some of the local foods. Perhaps you will travel off the beaten trail and go sightseeing. Most Caribbean cruise lines will offer you many choices to suit you own tastes and sense of adventure.

The cost for a Caribbean cruise will vary. Many times there are special offers available. Cruises are available for short durations (a three or four day weekend) to longer vacations as even up to 14 nights. There are also many room options available which will also affect the cost of your Caribbean cruise. Some rooms will give you a view of the ocean, while other rooms are in the interior of the cruise ship. Just as in first class hotels, cruise ships also offer special suites as well as more traditional rooms.

A Caribbean cruise may be just the vacation you have been looking for. It will certainly be a vacation that you will not soon forget. I never forget the Caribbean cruise we went on for our honeymoon. It was most memorable.

Advantages of Advertised Vacation Deals

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

When I get the weekend newspaper, the very first section I dive for is the travel section. Research has proven to me that there can be some amazing vacation deals to be found. They may be cleverly hidden or well publicized, but they do exist. I have discovered the best times of the year for finding great vacation deals and the absolute most expensive times of the year to travel. As much as I would love to have the carefree lifestyle that would allow me to drop everything and take advantage of those last minute vacation deals, I don’t. I have a friend who only travels at the last minute. She’s saved thousands of dollars by using that strategy. Granted, she and her husband may not always get plane tickets in the same section of the airplane, but, when you’ve been married as long as they have, perhaps sitting separately is a welcome break.

Research vacations on the internet and tons of sites jump out at you. Everyone wants you to check out their vacation deals. Travel sites are my personal favorite, as they compete for your business. I’ve booked a few flights and hotels through various sites but am still a big fan of using a travel agent. Call me old-fashioned, but I suppose if something gets messed up, I have someone else to blame. Many hotels offer discounted rates on their direct sites or all-inclusive vacation deals if you book directly. I encourage people to take advantage of those. As long as you get an exact itinerary and exact rates, you aren’t left guessing and possibly being misled. Always make sure you look into what those amazing vacation deals are offering. You may end up spending more on taxes and meals than what you were budgeting for.

For those people who enjoy doing their own research and planning their own trips, there are so many vacation deals to be found, but proceed with caution. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against travel websites, I’m actually a huge fan of them. I frequently check months ahead of time just to have a general idea of how much my vacation just may end up costing. My travel agent is a huge help to me. She knows what types of vacation deals I seek and goes out of her way to make sure I get exactly what I want. When using an agent, there are no surprises. If I consistently used the internet to book all of my travels, I may find a few things that I had not planned for. A spontaneous person will have no problem with that occurrence.

I however, am the type of person who likes to know exactly what I’m getting for my money. Those advertised vacation deals are easy to fall for and a pleasure to take advantage of, so long as I get exactly what I’m hoping for. Next winter, my husband and I are planning a wonderful Caribbean getaway. I’ve already done plenty of research on all-inclusive vacation deals that are all over the internet. There are some very appealing packages. I’m torn between using my travel agent once again, or allowing myself to be lured into a romantic and adventure filled vacation deal. Who knows, maybe the spontaneous vacation deal purchase could be the best decision of my life.

Advantage of Hotel Search Engines

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

How often do you travel? Are you one of those business men or women, who spend half of their lives on an airplane and in a hotel room? Or are you the average American, who hops on a plane once a year for that annual family vacation? Either way, you’re probably in need of some decent lodging. This is why it’s imperative to browse around for the best hotel and lodging deals. I’m not sure how anyone went about this in the past. I’d say you were pretty lucky if you could book a decent hotel room before arriving at your destination. Well folks, times are certainly changing. These days you no longer have to fret about motel hells and seedy lodgings that over-charge you for a flea-infested closet of a room. This is all thanks to hotel search engines. You can take advantage of this technology in order to pinpoint that ideal hotel room and enjoy your stay.

Did you take advantage of hotel search engines on your last vacation? The World-Wide-Web has a deluge of benefits to offer the common folk now days. That is why I love it. Even all of us so-called “middle class” families can take advantage of the best deals. It’s not just reserved for the aristocrats and celebrities. Cyberspace is there to aid us all. I like to use hotel search engines any time I travel.

I love the way I can punch in a destination and get flooded with results regarding the area and all lodging options. This way I can open each hotel’s website and do some investigating. I can see what the rooms look like and how the surroundings of the hotel appear. I can even check to see if there is a pool and Jacuzzi available. So many hotels provide virtual tours now days. This reveals all the necessities. You no longer have to guess if the hotel is satisfactory or not. Furthermore, you can find out where the lodging is located exactly. Maybe you want one in a downtown area.

Are you planning a big vacation for you and the family? It is about that time of year. Well, one thing you want to be certain of is your lodging. Don’t wait until you hit your destination to book a last minute hotel room. Get online and take advantage of hotel search engines. Reserve that perfect hotel room and have it all taken care of before you even head out the door. You will be glad you did. This way you will have more time to relax with the family. Not to mention hotel search engines will save you some cash.

The Best California Bed Breakfast

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

The many wonderful things about a good California bed breakfast are homemade biscuits at breakfast, which are, yes, served in the room; the fresh bedding; the special guest dinners; the perks and amenities. But what I find most impressive in not only the California bed breakfast experience but the bed and breakfast experience in general is the theme room/hotel. Maybe you have a penchant for nature. Maybe you are a history buff. Or maybe you have a fetish for a particular travel destination or have a thing for art. Whatever the desire or need, you can indulge in a weekend fantasy at a themed California bed breakfast.

CALIFORNIA BED BREAKFAST THEME HOTELS/INNS

For example, the following are just some of the possible fantasy weekend packages offered:

At the Churchill Manor Bed and Breakfast in Napa Valley, you can experience the plantation in the Gone with the Wind rooms in the old southern Colonial home.

The Gone with the Wind theme is also delightful at Plantation Bed and Breakfast in Lemon Grove, and

At The Union Hotel and Victorian Mansion, in Los Almos, you might enjoy the Victorian age in the manse or indulge in the fantasy of the 1950s, the gypsy life, Roman antiquity, Egyptian royalty, French history, or Pirate swashbuckling.

At Leucadia Inn in Encinitas, besides having subtly placed microwave and other modern amenities, you can have the dream of your choice come true in a Tropical setting, in the Hollywood Nostalgia room, on an African Safari, or by way of the decor that takes you to Nantucket, Calypso (style), or New Orleans.

The Splash Spa in Los Angeles has the infamous cave, the Monte Carlo, and the Jungle Room, as well as rooms ala the Mediterranean, Barcelona, and Japan. But note that this California bed breakfast is not really a b&b but an hourly place to stay for a quickie or short rest (and, of course, spa treatment).

And the wilder, more natural, and appropriately, more western urges can be satisfied at such places as The Featherbed Railroad Company, where you and yours can get loose with Mint Julep (rooms), engage in the romance of Casablanca, go alternative in the Easy Rider or La Loose, relive (so to speak) the mystery of The Orient Express, or go right back to the heart of The Wild, Wild West.

California bed breakfast experiences, then, take you where you want to go or need to be, whether it is to re-experience your teen years in a Rockin 50′s Suite, with the bed that is fashioned out of a 1959 Cadillac; to play nouveau riche in a five-star Garden Theme room, in The English Rose, the Apricot Blossom Suite, or the Forget Me Not room; or exact the life of a writer in a cottage or a tortured one with James Dean angst in the Rebel Room.

With the California bed breakfast, you can appreciate the amenities, can be coddled by old world cuisine and courtesy and charm of the caretakers, and can find appeal in anything from the attractive views, the ambience, or the general atmosphere. But further, with the themed California bed breakfast, you come away with a memory of having gone back in time, gone forward in time, and having gone into the lives and spirit of another be it Elvis or Scarlet Hara, an astronaut or a Neanderthal or a thug.

Vacation Saving: Online Hotel Booking

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

With the Internet, it is so much easier to accomplish daily tasks. From banking to shopping, it can all be done on computers. This makes it extra convenient for those of us who have no time to waste. Whether you’re planning a vacation or business trip, rest assured that your lodging can be dealt with online. Hotels across the world have made it simple to find a room from our laptops. Online hotel booking is taken advantage of every day by a number of people with a variety of needs.

Online hotel booking offers the customer a selection to be reckoned with. No where else can you find such a spectrum of lodging choices. The great thing about finding a hotel online is the upfront information. You can get a basic rundown of the hotel’s appearance and ratings. It is easy enough to view all of your options when searching for that perfect stay. We all have to admit that over the phone we can get duped. You book a night at the so-called five star resort, and you get there, but it’s not what was described. Online hotel booking prevents you from creating that mental image. You’re provided with online pictures, so there’s no big mystery.

A great advantage to online hotel booking is the price. How often have you searched for that perfect hotel at an ideal rate? This is a notion of the past. Now you can check out all of the wonderful websites, which are loaded with hotel deals. You can pinpoint that hotel that’s right for you with a price you can afford. Depending on the date you stay, there are amazing discounts to take advantage of. If you book far enough in advance, you will virtually always save some bucks.

The last vacation I took was perfect. I hopped online and punched in my destination. Then I simply searched all of the hotels in that area. I was provided with photos of the rooms, amenities offered, and very competitive prices. It is nice to have an understanding of the lodging before arriving. This is a good way to save some cash, which can be spent on other things. Making a trip can be exhausting in itself. Don’t wait until you arrive to try and book a hotel room. Take advantage of the Internet and get that room ahead of time. This way you can rest assured that you won’t be sleeping in the car, and you won’t be forking out the big bucks. You get to spend your money on pampering yourself during vacation.

Great Weekend Breaks for Family

Friday, August 25th, 2006

How are you spending your weekends? For most people, weekends are often spent as time to recoup from the stress of the workweek, and as time for families to spend catching up with each other. They are content to stay home and relax. There may come a time, however, when even that is not enough, and you want to get away. Two days may not seem like a lot, but even short weekend breaks can do your peace of mind a world of good.

Weekend breaks don’t have to be complicated; they just have to be relaxing. Some people pack up on Friday night and return home on Sunday evening, refreshed and renewed. In the summer months, you have more options for this, but there are weekend activities you can do in the winter as well. Weekend breaks are what you make of them, and when you go may be determined on what you like to do to relax.

Weekend breaks in the summer can be anything you like. You may not be able to jet off to Paris for a romantic weekend, but you can find a hotel room nearby. This will give you a chance to forget about housework, or deadlines, and will allow you to completely relax. You don’t have to worry about anything because there is someone to cook and clean, and you don’t have to lift a finger. Sounds like heaven to me!

You may also want to pack up the family for a camping trip. Don’t make it too complicated, or you may return more worn out than when you left. Keep it simple, and make sure you leave plenty of time to just relax once you arrive. You can do things like fishing, hiking, boating, or just enjoy nature. This is something my family does at least once a year to recharge our batteries.

In the winter months, you can go for skiing or snowboarding. Many ski resorts offer specials for weekend breaks because they know this is when most families can get away. They have special packages just for beginners and the seasoned skiers alike. In most cases, you can rent everything you need right there at the resort, and your accommodations are onsite or nearby.

For romantic weekend breaks, you might want to consider a cozy bed and breakfast in a nearby location. You can often find these in places you never considered, and chances are, there are some within an hour drive from your home that will do the trick. These tend to be a bit more romantic than a hotel, and the personalized service may leave you feeling pampered and relaxed. It’s great!

Things to Do on Canada Vacations

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Canada vacations are some of the most satisfying getaway solutions. With the summer heat the way it is in some of our towns, a cooler, or freezing winter in Canada is actually inviting. With half the world at war, the politically free and socially indifferent Canadians seem like a welcome community. And with the fascinating history, locations, events, and activities available in the deep north, Canada vacations give promise to otherwise droll weeks of work.

Where could you plan to visit on Canada vacations?

Wow. So many locations to cover in this the second largest country in the world–from Alberta to Quebec to Ontario to BC (British Columbia). Add Manitoba, Vancouver Island, and Newfoundland (not Canada, but nearby). Then consider specific tourist attractions as the awesome Niagara Falls, the stunning Banff National Park, and the equally majestic Jasper National Park.

What can you do and see during your Canada vacations?

Go hiking, waterskiing, sporting, then try the wilder regions where hunting and fishing draw hundreds of professional and casual sportsmen. Catch a hockey game with the Edmonton Oilers five-time Stanley cup champions. Try the French-Canadian cuisine, the maple syrup, the galumpies (what my Mom calls them, anyway) and the gallettes.

And none of this is appealing to you yet, consider getting involved somehow in all that Canada vacations have behind them great people, natural entities, and a rich history (free of international strife!). That is, think about some of the vital info, found on Canada vacations sites in the trivia categories though by no means is this info all that trivial:

Go check out the CN Tower, which is 553.33 meters high.

Take the challenge to scale the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, in British Columbia.

Go kayaking, boating, or whitewater rafting down the longest river in Canada, the Mackenzie, which starts in the Northwest Territories and ends up at the Hudson Bay.

Visit the big cities in Quebec; buy art from the locals or the Inuits; take in a culture fair or festival with the Canadians who live up to their country s name, Canada, or Kanata, village, or indulge in some of the hottest clubs and hot spots.

In fact, don’t forget, such brilliant comics as Mike Myers, Caroline Rhea, Tom Green, Dave Foley, Jim Carrey, John Candy, Phil Hartman, Dan Akroyd, Tommy Chong, and Martin Short all hailed from Canada, so your Canada vacations, should they for some ungodly reason be lacking, could include a visit to a local comedy club! No visitors should miss it.

Green Valley Ranch Resort, Las Vegas

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Look at the advertisement photos for the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas and you can not only imagine yourself there but can imagine the place filled with classic celebrities. I see the likes of Elvis or one of his characters, like Rick conversing or conferring in the fabulous indoor pool room with the welcoming overstuffed chairs and matching footrests or better, do one of his classic group songs where he sings and plays the git while the go-go girls, clad only in fringed two-piece suits shimmy around him and the shimmering blue pool.  One can also see Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. kicked back and tipping back clinking cocktails, or Wayne Newton and his entourage taking over this area of the Green Valley Ranch Resort during a break from sets in the lounge.

You can also see the likes of any celebrity at the outdoor pool of Green Valley Ranch Resort which is lined with symmetrically, artistically, and even ergonomically apt lounge chairs: you can imagine Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez, or Jerry Lewis, or Jackie Gleason, relaxing in between sets or gigs, enjoying the cabana service, the fresh air and sun, the deep Mediterranean teal blue pool.

I get these nostalgic impressions from the decor especially that which is a delightful throwback to or simulation of the fifties and sixties, but the decor also changes, progresses, as do the amenities at Green Valley Ranch Resort. For example, the spa facilities are shown by photos with sleek women stretched out in meditative repose, smooth stones lining their backbones or special skin treatment solutions (that look like egg yolk batter or paint) being applied as they recline in quiet serenity. Therefore, I get the sense that if they were to visit Las Vegas and were to choose Green Valley Ranch Resort, big stars like Angelina Jolie or Michelle Pfieffer or Ving Rames or Brad Pitt would be in their vacationing element in spas like these.

Of course, big time gamblers like Ben Affleck would look and feel just as right in the Green Valley Ranch Resort casino (if he/they didn’t feel up to going a few hundred feet away to the strip and the other gambling houses); and the entertainment, which turns out to be advertised with a nod toward Hollywood, is both indoor and outdoor delight at the Green Valley Ranch Resort. So come to think of it, I can see myself lounging at the water, getting pampered in the spa, or gambling like all get out. Check out the photos and slide show of the Green Valley Ranch Resort and I would BET you can imagine yourself there, as well.
